Backflow Repair

Failed your annual test? Leaking RPZ? Broken vacuum breaker? We diagnose and repair every common assembly on site. Rebuild kits for Febco, Wilkins, Apollo, and Zurn ride on the truck. FL BAT #PR14723.

Dual Wilkins Zurn 975XL2 RPZ backflow preventer with a fresh passing inspection tag, restored to compliance after an Englewood Water District shut-off notice for non-compliance visible in the background.

Why Backflow Assemblies Fail

Backflow preventers are mechanical. Check valves have springs. Relief valves have diaphragms. Vacuum breakers have air inlets that clog with mineral deposits. In Florida, hard water and sun exposure accelerate the wear on every one of these components.

The most common failure modes we see in North Port and Englewood:

  • Weak or dirty check valves — fails the differential pressure test during annual inspection
  • Weeping relief valve — visible water discharge from the relief port on an RPZ
  • Stuck vacuum breaker float — standing water or debris lodged in the air inlet
  • Cracked assembly body — usually caused by impact damage, lawn equipment, or long-term corrosion
  • Failed seals or O-rings — visible leaks at the test cock or union fittings

On-Site Repair, Not a Second Appointment

We stock rebuild kits for every common FL assembly on the truck: Febco, Wilkins, Apollo, Zurn. That means most failed tests get repaired the same visit — and we re-test immediately so your compliance report goes through without a re-inspection fee.

For assemblies that are too damaged to rebuild cost-effectively (cracked body, obsolete assembly, heavy corrosion), we give you a straight-answer quote to replace versus repair. No runaround, no hidden markup.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does backflow repair cost?

Most rebuild jobs are flat-rate per assembly type. RPZ rebuild kits cost more than PVB kits; full replacement is only recommended when repair economics don't make sense. Call (941) 786-8434 for a same-day estimate.

Can you repair and re-test on the same visit?

Yes — that is our default. We carry rebuild kits for every common assembly on the truck. After repair, we re-run the full certification test so your report can be filed the same day.

My RPZ is dumping water from the relief port. Is that normal?

No. Intermittent relief discharge during pressure fluctuations is sometimes normal, but continuous water discharge means the first check valve has failed. The assembly is not protecting your water and must be repaired before the next annual test.

Should I repair or replace my backflow preventer?

Repair when: the assembly is under 15 years old, the body is intact, and a rebuild kit is still made for the model. Replace when: the body is cracked, the model is obsolete, or multiple failures have occurred in recent years. We give you the honest numbers both ways.
